He graduated from Columbia Central High School in 1960, and enlisted in the United States Army on October 18, 1965. He served in Vietnam with the 14th Transportation Battalion and was honorably discharged October 8, 1967.
On April 5, 1969, he married JoAnn Pierce Woody.
Survivors include one son, one daughter, one brother and one sister. His is also survived by four granddaughters.
