Margaret “Maggie” Augusta Wilson, 100, died Saturday, January 12, 2019, at Shirkey’s Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond.

Margaret was born on February 24, 1918, in Carroll County, to Alfred Paul and Mabel (Smith) Bierbaum. She was united in marriage to John Breckenridge Wilson of Carroll County in 1938. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include: one son: Bill “Bucky” Wilson and his wife Janice Gail of Lexington; one daughter: Deanne Bowles of Richmond; 8 grandchildren: Tracey Sims, Mendi Wilson Hamilton, Veronica Goodloe, Donnie Ford, Bobby Ford, LaDonna Ford, Tony Foster, and Shane Hays; two step-grandchildren: Randy Roberts and Lana Spooner; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Carolyn Burnett, step-daughter Shirley Roberts, two brothers: Paul and George Bierbaum; and one sister Mary Lou Massa.

Maggie was born at home, near Norborne, the oldest of 4 children. Maggie was still living on the family farm when she was in her 70s. The family said when they would come to visit her on the farm, one time, they found her lying on the ground under a bull, getting ready to give it a shot. Another time, they found her on top of a big barn, painting the roof. “She was afraid of nothing.” Her children said she was a strict mom, but a good one. While raising her family and working on the farm, Maggie still managed to spend more than 30 years working at The Jones Store. She lived to work.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the family’s choice. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main Street - P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, January 18, 2019, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be at Gilead Cemetery, southeast of Norborne.
