Horace, as he was known to most of his friends, received his early education at the Reynolds Presbyterian Academy, the Albany Public School and Terrill School for Boys at Dallas, Texas. He entered Virginia Military Institute in the fall of 1917 and graduated with a B.A. degree with the class of 21.
During World War I, he served with the Reserve Officers Training Corps., and the US Marine Corp., and Officers Training Camp at Plarrsburg, New York.
Returning to Albany in 1921 he worked with his father in the ranching business and in September 1922 he married Marguerite Riter of Forney.
He entered the banking business in 1948.

Horace Sedwick was in from the ranch Saturday. Horace returned from college and put on his overalls and sent out to the harvest fields, and says that he has only lost one day since his return. That's the kind of stuff out of which men are made. From college to the harvest field, and not too stuck up to work.
