Graveside services for Johnnie Conway, 94, of Henderson, will be held at Strong Cemetery on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2019, at 10:30 A.M. Officiating will be Damon Parker, grandson of the deceased, and George Conway, nephew. Interment will follow under the direction of Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends at the cemetery at 10:00 A.M. prior to the service on Tuesday.

Johnnie passed away Jan. 12, 2019, in Henderson, TX.

She was born July 21, 1924, in Minden, TX, to Rev. John Russell Welch and Emma Francis Lee Welch and graduated from Minden High School in 1940. Her father, Rev. John Russell Welch, was instrumental in the founding of Texas Baptist Institute.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Joe H. Conway, and her parents; three brothers: Jesse Thomas Welch, Miles Adrin Welch, Howard Russell Welch; eight sisters: Mary Helen Welch, Buna Edna Welch, Lillias Welch Bowman, Gertrude Welch Locke, Mamie Welch Williams, Clydell Welch Bradford, Gusta Welch Husband and Mozelle Welch Broker.

Survivors include her two children, Joe Earl Conway and wife Carol of Bee Cave, TX, and Janet Conway Parker and husband John of Tyler. Also survived by five grandchildren: Thais Conway Hanson, Andrew Warren Conway, Damon Parker, Colin Parker and Connor Parker. Sixteen great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and other family and friends.

Johnnie (born Baby John) loved to sew, quilt and garden, canning vegetables and preserving fruits. She worked at Warren’s Photography Studio, and for 27 years, at Marie’s Tots and Teens, where she made countless friends. She especially enjoyed her trips to Market in Dallas with Marie Smith to purchase store inventory.

She was a long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Honorary pallbearers are nephews: C.A. (Bill) Husband, George Conway, Paul Wayne Conway, Ken Johnson and Gary Johnson.

If desired, the family requests memorial contributions to The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center at P.O. Box 4486, Houston, Texas 77210-4486 or to Hospice of East Texas at 4111 University Blvd, Tyler, TX 75701.

The family extends special thanks to the staff of Brookdale at Henderson Assisted Living and Memory Care for their years of care and attention to Johnnie. They also thank the rehab staff of Autumn Leaves for their assistance and care in recent weeks.
