John S. Frazer was born in Ray County, Mo., October 21, 1858.  His parents, William T. and Sarah A. Frazer, were farmers and he was trained to habits of industry and economy, and from a boy he shunned the society of the idle and vicious.  When 19 he went to Colorado and worked a year for his brother-in-law herding cattle.  Then he handled the herd upon the plains of New Mexico on shares so successfully that at the end of four years he had a fine herd of his own, which he sold on a good market and with the avails came to Moline in 1883.  His father’s family came soon after.  He invested extensively in real estate, and January 1, 1885, he entered into partnership with W. H. Downing and John Hanson for the handling of general merchandise, grain, and livestock, and they established “The Moline Bank.”  January 28, 1889, Mr. Frazer withdrew from the firm to give his exclusive attention to stock business.  In the early spring of 1890, he purchased and brought in a large herd of cattle from Texas. . . .  At a lonely spot within [a] pasture, he was waylaid and butchered by having his throat cut and ten dagger cuts thrust in and about the heart and abdomen.
