Born in Golden Bay, Manitoba, Winnie left there as a very young child and moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba where her father worked for Winnipeg Electric. She attended school and worked as a domestic until 1926 when she met and later married Hubert (Cliff), Smith. Fourteen years and three children later they packed up their belongings and moved to Geraldton, Ontario. Winnie worked at the Strand Theatre as Doorlady and Hubert started in the Trucking Business. In 1962 they moved to Port Arthur, Ontario where Hubert continued trucking and Winnie spent her time at home. She loved her home and garden. A pot of coffee was always on for anyone that came by and apple pie to go with it. She made everyone feel welcome. Winnie was always interested in sewing and she became an excellent seamstress sewing all her own clothes and sewing for others as well. In 1963 Winnie was introduced to 5 Pin Bowling which she grew to love and took quite seriously, bowling a good many “300” games. She bowled in Leagues steadily until the ripe old age of 92.
