Edwin graduated from Olton High School in 1945. He continued his education at Wayland Baptist Jr. College in Plainview, TX where he graduated with an associate’s degree in mechanical engineering. In 1948, he joined the United States Airforce where he received training as a Gen Radar Mechanic attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He served his country during the Korean War until he was honorably discharged in 1952. After returning from the war he went to work for Boeing Company in Wichita, Kansas. While at Boeing he met the love of his life Sue Beisly. Shortly after meeting Sue, Edwin accepted a position at Seismograph Service Corporation as a software programmer that took him to Venezuela and later to Brazil. Edwin proposed while in Brazil to Sue-by mail. The couple married shortly after on October 4, 1959 in Tyro, Kansas. Soon afterwards Edwin and Sue moved to Brazil with Seismograph where they lived for two years before Edwin was relocated to Tulsa, Oklahoma. In the fall of 1962 the family moved to their current residence in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. The couple became members of Sunnyside Baptist Church where Edwin served as a Deacon for 50 years. He retired from Seismograph Service in 1991, during retirement Edwin enjoyed traveling, gardening and playing with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Raymond and Melvin Hamm, sisters Madine Fairbairn and Florine Worsham and grandson Matthew Hulsey.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sue Hamm; their six children Michael Hamm, Mary DeCuir, Melinda Wright, Melissa Hulsey, Martin Hamm, and Monty Hamm; eight grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren; family and friends.
Edwin’s life will be celebrated at Sunnyside Baptist Church, 8091 South 305th East Ave, Broken Arrow, OK 74014 at 11:00 a.m on Thursday January 10, 2019. A graveside service will follow in his honor at 12:30 p.m. at Floral Haven, 6500 S 129th E Ave A, Broken Arrow, OK 74012.
