James Alvin Lodge, known to most as Jimmy, age 76, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2018.

Born on November 13, 1942 in Birmingham, Alabama, he was the son of JC and Frankie B. Foreman Lodge. He worked in Birmingham as a pipe fitter for local sprinkler company. He attended Glen Iris Elementary and Banks High School in Birmingham, Alabama.

He was a member of Farley Church of Christ. He served in the Navy for two years, later he served in the Army National Guard for 25 years where he retired in 2002 as a E5 Sargent.

He enjoyed listening to music, cooking as well as spending time with his friends at the American Legion. He also volunteered his time helping out in military funerals. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and big heart. He will be deeply missed by those that knew him.

He lived hard for many years A veteran, a pipefitter, He had very little fear. Though he was short in stature, He was huge on the inside; He was proud to be a Veteran, It was a title he held with pride. We were kindred spirits right away, Though many years apart, But firmly grounded in the beliefs We held in each our hearts. Each day at lunch we'd visit, Over coffee and "sweet cakes", Sometimes we'd ponder politics, Other times confess mistakes.

Sometimes a special trip we'd scheme To get us out of town, We'd have to get a biscuit On the way to bust some rounds. We'd shoot our guns and tell some jokes, We talked about it all it seems, I only wish for one more day Full of memories like these. I tried for one more visit, Just this past Christmas Eve; But my weary friend, he wasn't home, Maybe it wasn't meant to be. The last time that I saw him, We joked about his "baby bump", We talked about his family, And the people that he loved. As I left I said, "I love you buddy" And he replied the same, He was a mentor, and a confidant, He was so wise to life's games. He told me he was proud if me, And he thought of me, as a son, "Always remember what I've said, Your life's only just begun." The greatest gift he gave me, I'll cherish to my life's end, Above the faith and kindredness, Mr. Jimmy, was my friend.
