Margaret Joan Loper was gathered into the arms of the Lord on September 5, 2018, one week before her 90th birthday. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joe. It's hard to imagine a couple more in love than Joan and Joe Loper. They were united by love and faith during their 40 years of marriage and now they are reunited in heaven.

Joan was born on September 11, 1928 in San Antonio, Texas. Her parents were James Floyd Billingsley and Margaret Alder Billingsley and she was the eldest of their five children.

Joan was divorced and had three daughters when she met Joe Loper on a blind date in 1963 and she soon realized that he was the love of her life. They were married a few months later. Their new family included her three daughters and Joe's three sons. Joe had just started Loper Mortgage Company and after going to the office to help out more and more often, Joan eventually went to work there full time. They worked side by side at Loper Mortgage for 25 years.

Joan and Joe were devout Christians and were active volunteers at Travis Park United Methodist Church in San Antonio, where they were members for more than 30 years. Joan sang in the church choir and played the piano for the Sunday school class that Joe taught. They later joined University United Methodist Church. They enjoyed traveling and spending summers at their home in the mountains of Colorado, where they entertained many friends and family members over the years.

Joan lived in San Antonio her whole life, as had many generations of her family before her, but four years after Joe's death in 2002 she moved to Austin to be closer to her daughters. She resided in Austin until her death.

Joan was a beautiful person inside and out and she was greatly loved by everyone who knew her. She was kind and generous, loving and affectionate and she was always happy, even after she developed Alzheimer's disease.

Joan is survived by her children Margo Hipps and husband Mark, of Georgetown; Debra Freeman and husband Jesse, of Salado; Michele McCall and husband Joe, of Austin; George Loper and wife Ann, of Charlottesville, Virginia, and John Loper and wife Lorraine, of Houston. Her son Joe Loper IV predeceased her. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
