Benjamin R. Lyons was born in Andrew County, MO. His parents were Benjamin Lyons sr and Sarah K Patrick who were married 20 December 1850 in Andrew County. Unfortunately, Ben's father died while he was still a wee lad. His mother would remarry to Frank Hart. A son, Prince Albert Hart, would be born to Frank and Sarah in January 1857. The Hart family, including Ben, lived in Forest City Holt County, MO through the 1860's to 1880's.

By the time of the 1880 US census, Ben and Maria Norton were married and their family consisted of daughters Daisy (age 2 yrs) and Jennie (age 5 months). They were farming near Craig in Lewis Township, Holt County, MO along with brother P.A. Hart and his wife Georgia.

Ben's step father, Frank Hart, appears to have died in the early 1880's in Holt County. The entire Hart/Lyon family then moved to Johnson, NE, sometime before 1890 when widow Sarah K Hart is listed in the veteran's census for Johnson. Four more children were added to Ben and Maria's family: Charles E (born July 1882), Prince Albert (born 13 August 1885), Harry (born May 1889) and Grace (born June 1892). Ben, Maria and their five youngest children were living with Ben's mother and half-brother in Johnson at the time of the 1900 census. After Ben's death, Maria would move to Omaha and then Liberty, NE to live with her children. The children would all move away from Johnson to marry and live elsewhere in Nebraska.

Mother Sarah K Hart died in 1910 in Johnson. His brother Prince Albert Hart was living with his niece Daisy in Coleridge, Cedar County, NE, at the time of the 1920 census. His burial location is not presently known although he died in 1934 in Washington County, Nebraska.

Some information about Ben and Maria's children is below:
1. Daisy married Cornelius A. Jenkins 1 Oct 1895 at Tecumseh, NE. An infant of Daisy and Neal is buried in Johnson Cemetery. They had three other sons; two died at an early age and are buried in Coleridge Cemetery (links to memorial pages for Donald and Cecil Jenkins). Daisy was widowed and living in Liberty with her niece and a recently widowed brother-in-law at the time of the 1930 US census.

2. Jennie married Clyde Botkins. They had no children. She died at age 45 and is buried in Liberty.

3. Charles Emmett - is buried in Circle Mound Cemetery, Rising City, NE. He was married twice and had no children.

4. Prince Albert married Carrie C and had at least five children. Albert and Carrie are buried in Calvary Cemetery in Omaha.

5. Harry Giles married Maybelle and they are both buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Omaha. They had no children.

6. Grace married twice but died at a relatively young age and is buried in Liberty. She was survived by a daughter (Ina Marie Smith, born in about 1913).
