Born in Enid, Oklahoma, he was the son of Harvey James and Edith Lillian (Beadles) Wheeler. He married Greta Gay Gish on June 4, 1961 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. He served with the Oklahoma National Guard, 45th Division, and then the Army Reserves. He was a member of the South McAlester Masonic Blue Lodge No. 96, a 32nd degree Scottish Rite member, a past Patron of the Faith Chapter No. 454, Order of the Eastern Star, past Rainbow Dad of Mother Assembly No. 1 International Order of Rainbows for Girls and a recipient of the Grand Cross of Color. He was very involved in community activities. He died in Hollywood, Florida. Burial at Green Hill Cemetery in Sapulpa under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers, Perry, Paul, Elvin, Ernest, Howard, Ed and Irvin Wheeler; a sister, Leona Culbertson, and two brothers-in-law, Robert (Bob) Gish and wife, Veda (Buff) and Arthur Pool.
