American Folk Figure. Creator of "The World's Biggest Ball of Twine." For reasons that are lost to history, he had wrapped it for four hours daily from 1950 to 1979, starting from his basement until he moved it to his front yard, adding an open-air shed to go with it. At the time of its completion, it measured at 12 feet (3.7 meters) in diameter, 11 feet (3.35 meters) in height, and weighed in at 17,400 pounds (8.7 tons/7,900 kilograms). Although it no longer holds the record of the biggest twine ball ever made, it currently holds the record for the biggest twine ball made by one person. His creation is featured in several works, ranging from appearances in the 'Guinness Book of World Records' and 'Ripley's Believe It or Not' to being featured on the American news program 'CBS Sunday Morning with Charles Kuralt' and being referenced by "Weird Al" Yankovic in his 1989 single "The Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota."
