Notes from a research done by
Edith Bowman Brand:

"At the age of 19, according to the Georgia Department of
Archives, he entered into Company B, 34th Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry. Company B was headquartered at Canton, Cherokee County, Georgia, Camp McDonald about seven miles north of Marietta. Archive records his enlistment as May 13,1862. He was captured at Vicksburg,
Mississippi on July 4, 1863. He was paroled four days later on July 8, 1863, given $50 and told to go home. However, it appears from other records that he went back to the Confederate Army for in the spring of 1865 he was with General Hood at Jonesboro, Georgia. He was cut off from Hood's command and he joined with General Woffard's Army until General Lee surrendered."
