Our citizens were shocked at the announcement Monday morning of the death of John F. Boyd Jr, which occurred at Nordhoff, Ventura, CA, where he was attending school. The death was a specially sad one, owing to the fact that within a year - August 14, 1901 - his older brother met his death by asphyxiation. thus taking away from a happy home, with all the comforts of life, the 2 and only sons of Mr. and Mrs. John F. Boyd, leaving them with only one child - a daughter, who is younger than the sons.

Mr. and Mrs. Boyd are among our most prominent and most highly esteemed citizens, and our people who have learned to honor and respect them for their real worth fully sympathize with them in their sadness.

The older son was about 17 years of age at the time of his death. The younger boy died on Monday, April 28, 1902, at the age of 15 years, 11 months, and 7 days. He had been in ill health for some time, and thinking a change of climate would help him he went to the southern part of the state to attend school. He grew worse and the parents went down to be with and comfort him. He suffered with rheumatism and the cause of death was rheumatism of the heart.

The remains arrived here on Tuesday and the funeral services were conducted on Wednesday afternoon from the Episcopal Church. He was laid to rest by the side of his brother in Mt. Tamalpais Cemetery.
