Age 83, of Wayzata. Susan joined the angels, family and friends on December 25th, Christmas morning. Preceded in death by her husband Carl N. Platou, parents Jack and Ruth Kumpf, brother Jim and beloved identical twin sister Sally Bye. Also survived by brother John and sister Mary. While attending the University of Minnesota she married football legend Robert L. (Bobby) Cox. They had three children, Bobby, Sarah and Christopher. In 1977 Susan married Carl N. Platou. Susan was an artist, who after college at the University of Minnesota taught art briefly at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. She was a painter and a sculptor and one of her pieces was featured at the Brussel's World Fair in 1958. Susan spent 20 years at WCCO sports department predicting football scores for professional and college football. Under the name of Bronco, she was very accurate in her predictions. She also had a weekly column in the Star Tribune, "Ask Bronco" answering questions about football. Sue took her predictions seriously, studying the team's wins and loss history, and she often averaged 70-80% accuracy. But her most important job was that of being a mother to her three children. A music lover, sports fan, advocate for animals, and cheerleader for Minnesota, Susan boasts a volunteer history as wide as her interests. Her lifetime commitment to the Minnesota Orchestra includes serving more than 20 years on its Board, President of WAMSO, Chairing the Symphony Ball, and for four straight years, spearheading the fundraising efforts of the Guaranty fund, which raised more than one million dollars of the orchestras annual operational budget. When the International Special Olympics came to town in 1991, they called on Sue to lead the charge in recruiting 30,000 volunteers. She served on the Boards of Planned Parenthood, The Raptor Center, the U of MN Alumni Association, Guthrie Theatre, BrailleSports Foundation, and Breck School. Early in her volunteer career, she helped organize the first beep baseball event for the blind. Later in life, Susan and Carl made countless memories at their retirement home on Sanibel Island, Florida. Susan felt God blessed with a wonderful life. She was devoted to her children and grandchildren, who equally adored her. She always thanked God for her wonderful life and all its blessings.
