Verla Askelson Bloomquist, 79, of Fort Dodge passed away on Sunday, December 23, 2018 at Humboldt Care Center North in Humboldt, IA. The funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, December 28, 2018 at Badger Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Friday at the church. Burial will take place at Blossom Hill Cemetery.
Verla was born January 27, 1939 in Humboldt. She was united in marriage to Dean Askelson and they made their home in Badger, IA where they farmed and operated D & V Lumber until Dean’s death. Verla was remarried in 1986 to Mervin Bloomquist. She had a passion for baking. Verla cooked many Norweigan suppers and loved to bake cookies. She was an active member of Badger Lutheran Church. Verla loved her dog and constant companion Toby.
Verla is survived by her husband Mervin Bloomquist; daughters, Deb (Paul) Friesth, Shelly (Dan) Sauter, Marna Lawler, Deana (Dewain) Gudmonson, and Jennifer (Don) Halstead; step-son, Terry (Cindy) Bloomquist; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and her dog, Toby. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Dean Askelson; her parents, Maynard and Birdell Torgerson; 4 brothers; 3 sisters; and 2 infant sisters.
She was loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
