Alta Pearl McAlary was born February 23, 1928 on the 7-K Ranch west of Vici, Dewey Co Oklahoma. She lost her mother Montray Ann Campbell Kygar and father Jud Kygar, early in her life and was raised by her paternal grandmother Dosha (Harper, Kygar) Ziler and step grandfather Hank Ziler.

Pearl loved her life on the ranch and became a highly skilled horsewoman from her many hours in the saddle completing her ranching chores. Her ability in the saddle drew the attention of many admirers but her heart was drawn to the Colorado cowboy who had moved to the Vici area during her high school years. Pearl and Dale were destined sweethearts and continued a lifelong romance.

The couple married July 27, 1946. Pearl completed her education in 1947 while Dale worked at the local Co-op and drove the school bus. Her entire class stayed close all through the years. After Pearl graduated, the young couple’s marriage took them to the Texas Panhandle continuing their ranching lifestyle. Later, Dale’s natural ability with construction lead him to a lifetime profession as a Millwright. He built grain elevators across multiple states with Pearl following behind pulling their 8X36 home.

Three daughters were born to their union, Judy, Billie, and Sandra. Their home base continued at Vici but the couple’s travels gave the girls many opportunities to see and experience many different communities, cultures and landscapes. The family moved back permanently to the Vici community they loved in 1959.

Horses and all types of equine activities were a major endeavor for the entire family. By the time the girls were in elementary school, the house was filled with trophies and awards won in competitions throughout the United States. Pearl’s creative talents served her family well. Her innate skills in designing and sewing were well known in the arena world as her girls were always sharply dressed for all their competitions. She came up with unique and stunning outfits which were quickly copied by other competitors.

Pearl and Dale were dedicated to community and family. They each held offices and were greatly active in many organizations, locally and nationally: The Oklahoma Appaloosa Horse Club, The Oklahoma and National High School Rodeo Associations, 62 yrs with the Vici Roundup Club, Vici Jaycees and Jaycee Janes, local & county 4-H clubs, & The Cowboy Storytellers of Western Oklahoma were some of their favorites. Pearl was extremely proud of their efforts in developing the North Western Oklahoma Jr. Rodeo Association. They dedicated many hours to see that the rodeo youth of NW OK, NE TX, and SW KS would have an opportunity to hone their arena skills through keen competitions. They felt there was no better way to continue the strong, independent & caring ranching lifestyle of earlier generations.

Pearl’s continual involvement and excellence in the horse world was recognized by being selected to judge many Rodeo queen contests throughout the state. She was always thrilled when asked to help with the development of many future rodeo queens.

Pearl and Dale were both Baptized on the first day of spring in 1980. Her strong faith and strength were well known by her family and served her well throughout her life. A crisis of Dale and Pearl’s health brought them to the Vici Nursing Home in the last years. The VNH staff became their extended family and were constant and consistent in their loving care. The Vici Nursing Home was their home until passing.

Pearl is proceeded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Dale, her oldest daughter Judy Donley, her brothers Clint Kygar & Joe Kygar, along with her sisters in law Dorothy Kygar and Wana Kygar.

Pearl is survived by her son-in-law Doug Donley of Vinita, OK, daughter Billie and husband Fred Williams of Haskell, OK, daughter Sandra and husband Bryan Elliott of Texhoma, OK. Surviving Grandchildren include Alicia and Larry Waterman and children Ashley, & Scott of Flower Mound, TX, Tey Donley and daughter Drew of Tulsa, OK, Van Donley and daughter Lela of Afton, OK, KaCee and Jana Williams with children Kade & Jacee of Haskell, OK, Rory Elliott of San Marcos, TX and Josey Elliott of Baltimore, MD, along with close family friends Donald & Annie Rohrer of Vici.
