Lavina Leone Andrus Taylor, age 96, beloved aunt to many, passed away of cancer, April 24, 1988 at the home of a niece.
She was born February 11, 1892 in Holladay, Utah to Milo Andrus Jr. and Elizabeth Boyes Andrus. She was sealed to William B. Taylor June 5, 1934 in the St. George LDS Temple. He preceded her in death July 3, 1960.
Her great respect for education and thirst for knowledge made her a lifelong student. She was an avid reader, making books her personal friends and a joy to recall. Her early schooling was in Holladay and the Salt Lake High School. In 1929 she graduated with honors from the University of Utah. She taught school for 26 years in the Granite District. She loved and respected her students and always derived pleasure from their achievements.
She was an active member of the LDS Church her entire life, holding executive and teaching positions in all auxiliary organizations. She served a mission with her husband to California and they were also ordinance workers in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She was very generous with her donations, especially for the missionary program of the church. She was active in genealogy and compiled a history of her father's family. She and her husband operated a fruit orchard.
She was the 11th child of 13 children, all of whom have preceded her in death. She is survived by: three stepchildren, Mrs. J.H. (Elizabeth) Jettie, Salt Lake City; John Glen, Holladay; Mrs. Lloyd (Lenora) Snarr, Holladay; many loving nieces and nephews, and numerous great and great-great-nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by stepson, William J. Taylor.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 27, 1988, 11 a.m. at the Holladay 18th Ward, 2624 Milo Way (4910 South). Friends may call at the Cannon Mortuary, 2460 East Bengal Blvd (7600 South) Tuesday, from 6-8 p.m., and one hour prior to service at the chapel. Interment, Holladay Memorial Park.
