Eula Willey-Chappell Portsmouth - Eula W. Willey-Chappell, after a long life of 94 years, left us suddenly on September 28, 2016. She was born in Perquimins Co., NC to the late Thomas and Allie Lane White. She was predeceased by her first husband, Frank Edward Willey and her son, Frank Phillip Willey. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Lucille White and Ruth W. Stanton. Eula became a World War II bride at 19 when she met her future husband, Frank, home on furlough from the Army. After the war, they moved to Portsmouth and raised five children. Eula was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She was an avid genealogist and historian who authored several genealogy and family history books. She was a retired supervisor from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard's Supply Dept. She was devoted to her family and is survived by four daughters, Gail Robinson of Hotchkiss, CO, Janet Willey of Scranton, PA, Nanette Coon of Virginia Beach and Lorna Ellis and husband Edward of Portsmouth. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Leslie Sparks and husband Rick, Adam Jones and wife Erin, Matt Jones and wife Jaime, David Rigsby and wife Sandra, Nicole Flynn, Craig Kandel, Robin Pearce and husband John and Stacie Juarez and husband Hugo. Also left to honor her memory are 18 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren and a special nephew, Thomas Wade Stanton and wife Sharon. Eula was also predeceased by her second husband, David L. Chappell of Belvidere, NC. She is survived by a special step-daughter, Sandra Kay White and step-sons Roger Chappell and wife Sue, David Chappell and wife Katherine, John Chappell and wife Vickie, Joe Chappell and Ernie Chappell. She is predeceased by step-son, Phil Chappell. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel by her former bishop Gene Jones. A reception and visitation will be held following the service at Sturtevant Event Center. Burial will be private at a later date. www.SturtevantFuneralHome.com
