Leonard Bruce Burks, 80, of Burkburnett, went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, December 19, 2018.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, December 21, 2018 at Owens and Brumley Funeral Home in Burkburnett. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Calvary Baptist Church in Burkburnett with Pastor Dale Harris Sr., Pastor DJ Harris, and Deacon Charles Harris, officiating. Interment will follow at 1 p.m. at Antelope Cemetery under the direction of Owens and Brumley Funeral Home of Burkburnett.

Bruce was born on April 13, 1938 in Henrietta, Texas to the late Dalton Leonard and Eda Faye (Walters) Burks. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1956 until 1960. He married the love of his life, Frances Oliver, on December 27, 1968 in Archer City, Texas, and enjoyed the past 50 years together. He was saved on January 12, 1969 at the age of 30 at the Marantha Baptist Church in Odessa, Texas. Bruce held many jobs over the years in the oilfield, as a trucker, welder, machinist, and retired from Ray Cannedy Security. He had been an ordained minister since 2000, and served the Lord in many capacities.

Bruce was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Burkburnett. His hobbies included remote control airplanes, ventriloquism and a passion for studying God’s Word. Bruce enjoyed embroidery craft and loved to play the Saxophone. But his true passion was his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donald Ray Burks; sister, Wanda Casmir; and granddaughter, Kimberly Boyd.

Bruce is survived by his wife Frances Nell Burks of Burkburnett; sons, Dale Harris and wife Cheryl of Jacksonville, Texas, Charlie Harris and wife Liz of Burkburnett, Texas, Lloyd Boyd and wife Laura of Winnsboro, Texas, and Floyd Boyd of Boise City, Oklahoma; daughter, Susie Tanner and husband David of Chicago, Illinois; fifteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Garland Burks and wife Karen of Burkburnett, Texas, and Benny Burks of Waco, Texas; and a sister, Melba Harkins and husband Mike of Odessa, Texas.

The family suggests that memorial donations be made in Leonard’s name to Calvary Baptist Church in Burkburnett.
