Ruth A. “Rudi” (Barker) Witman, 78, of Lower Heidelberg Twp., passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at the Reading Hospital. She was the wife of Ronald L. Witman, with whom she shared 55 years of marriage on August 31st. She was known to those who loved her for being very social and her good sense of humor.
Rudi, a daughter of the late Wharton and Minnie (Redcliff) Barker, was born in Ashland. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Terri L., wife of Andrew Fraley, Pittsburgh, and Wendi W., wife of Keith Myers, Nazareth; a brother, Wharton R. Barker; and four grandchildren, Douglas and Gregory Fraley, and Madeline and Benjamin Myers.
She was a member of St John’s (Hain’s) UCC and also a member of the prayer shawl ministry.
Rudi graduated in 1958 from Frackville High School and in 1962 from Ursinus College. She worked for the Devereux Foundation, then was hired by individual school districts to further the education of high school students needing emotional support at Wernersville State Hospital. Later in life she worked in the library at Penn State Berks.
Services will be held at 10:30, Monday, Dec. 24th, at Lamm & Witman Funeral Home, 243 W. Penn Ave., Wernersville, with her pastor, the Rev. Dr. Sharon L. Barley officiating. A viewing will be held from 6-8:00 PM, Sunday, and 10-10:30 AM, Monday, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hain’s Church Cemetery.
