Evelyn was an active member of Rodes United Methodist Church, the Republican Party of Nelson County from the 1970s until 1990s, and was a member of Skyline Model “A” Chapter M.A. F. C. A Restores Club. She served as the Vice Regent and Historian for the Rockfish County Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and also served on the Board Election for the 5th District for 20 years. Evelyn worked as an assistant manager with The Wayne Theater in Waynesboro from 1988 until 1999 and also as an Avon Lady for 20 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alden Duncan Rodes.
Survivors include her daughter, Roxanne Rodes of Afton; siblings, Janice Coss and Edward Franklin Neese, Jr and wife, Judy all of Afton; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 23, 2018, at Rodes United Methodist Church Cemetery, 286 Avon Rd, Afton, VA 22920, Rev. Lowell Petry officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 22, 2018, at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 W. Main St., Waynesboro, VA 22980. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Evelyn’s memory to her church, Rodes United Methodist Church.
