Albert Joe Cordonnier passed from this life December 15, 2018 at the age 92 at the Norman Veterans Center. He was born December 31, 1925 in Oklahoma City to Milton and Emma Cordonnier.
Albert grew up in Oklahoma City and attended Putman City schools. He entered the US Navy in 1943 at the age of 17. He was in the largest naval battle of WWII, the Battle of Leyte Gulf, and he was very proud to be a part of that battle in service to his country, while aboard the USS Kalinin Bay aircraft carrier. After he separated from the Navy, he contracted Malaria, which caused several health issues for him. During that time, he found a passion for art. This passion led to a career at Tinker Air Force Base as an artist and illustrator until his medical retirement in 1975.
Albert was a member of Concord Missionary Baptist Church and was a strong supporter of the Navajo church in Arizona. He enjoyed taking trips there to visit his dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Milton Cordonnier and Emma Cordonnier (Opp); wife, Ruth Cordonnier; son, Broc Cordonnier; and brothers, Frank and Robert Cordonnier.
Survivors include his son, Gary Cordonnier of Norman; grandchildren, Amy, Eric, and Jake; and great-grandchildren, Hannah, Eric Paul, Jr., Erica, and Taylor. He is also survived by his dear friends, Casey and Tammy Lore, as well as a host of loving extended family and friends.
Services to honor Albert’s life are 11:00am, Thursday, December 20, 2018 at the chapel of Moore Funeral & Cremation, 400 SE 19th St. Moore, OK 73160. Interment will follow at Marlow Cemetery in Marlow, OK.
