Celia was the second daughter of Wolf Doniger and Lieba Gurwitch Doniger. Celia was born in Manhattan. Her birth date in 1886 is suggested by a record from the Hebrew Orphan Society (which may not be correct), into which she and her older sister Mary were placed when their mother died in 1893. In 1911, Celia married Charles Friedman, and they had two children: Lillian and Albert. Celia suffered from the Doniger family curse - tuberculosis - and died in her mid 30s. Her father, her mother, and younger sister Vera, all died of tuberculosis-related conditions.

When the grave was visited in the very early 2000s, the grave stone was in excellent condition but was significantly overgrown with bushes and a tree.
