Michael Steven Hicks Sr., 57, of Clyde died Sunday, December 16, 2018 in an Abilene hospice facility. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, December 21, 2018 at the First Baptist Church of Clyde with Dr. Toby Henson and Terry Chrane officiating under the direction of Bailey Howard Funeral Home of Clyde. Burial will follow in the Eula Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mike was born July 16, 1961 in Farmington, New Mexico to Fannie Kay “Tug” Farmer Hicks and Harold Stanley Hicks. He went to school in the Badlands of Ojito, New Mexico until 1st grade. The family then moved to Anchorage, Alaska where his dad worked at Cameron Metal Manufacturing. This is where Mike was first exposed and found the love for what would be his life long career of welding. After leaving Alaska the family moved back to Clyde to be reunited with the rest of their families.
Mike graduated in 1979 from Clyde where he was active in Football, Basketball, Track and 4H where he showed Brangus steers raised on their land and also shooting sports winning State and placing 2nd in the International Skeet Competition.
Mike worked for K&H Welding, T&B Boilers, and most recently as foreman at Tank & Vessel Builders in Baird, Texas.
Mike married Vicky (Johler) Simmons and have shared 27 years together with their 4 children; Michael S. Hicks Jr., John M. Hicks, Zane Simmons (wife-Virginia) and Victoria “Tori” Simmons Lucke (husband-Thomas). Mike has 5 grandchildren; Jacelyn “Jaci”, Madeline Grace, Athen, Axton and Avdan all of Clyde. Mike is also survived by his father Harold Hicks, brother David Hicks, niece Morgan Hicks Hammond and nephew Colby Hicks.
Mike was preceded in death by his mom, Kay “Tug” Hicks, his son, John Hicks, grandparents Hubert and Avis Farmer and Robert and Ellen Hicks.
