John was born December 15, 1938 to John and Beulah (Crosier) Baumann in Beatrice, Nebraska. He graduated from St. Joseph’s Catholic School, Beatrice, in 1956.
John married Judith Frerichs on May 14, 1960 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Beatrice. They were blessed with five children.
He worked for Gibbs Construction, Nebraska Public Power, Black and Veatch and various utility companies around the United States. He was an inspector and superintendent on high voltage power lines and substation construction.
John was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Odell and a lifetime member of Knights of Columbus.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 58 years, Judith; three sons, Steve (Joanne) Baumann, Mark (Linda) Baumann, Greg (Jill) Baumann; two daughters, Christine (Randy) Culpepper, Nicole (Tim) Vater; twelve grandchildren, Amanda (R.J.) Middlemas, Shannon (Tyler) Jorgenson, Jesse (Rebecca) Baumann, Jon Baumann, Emma Baumann, Liam Baumann, Faith Culpepper, Trevor Vater, Madison Vater, Abby Vater, Trevor (Sonya) Burggraff and Bailey (Chris) Lohmeyer; eight great-grandchildren; four brothers, Greg (Linda) Baumann, Edward Baumann, Fred (Laurie) Baumann and Pat Baumann and special friend Wendy Brusnahan; brothers-in-law, Ron (Jeanne) Frerichs, Dennis Frerichs and special friend Shirley Brown.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Beulah Baumann; brother, Charles Baumann; father and mother-in-law, Ernest and Lois Frerichs.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Odell with Father BalaRaju Marneni and Father Robert Barnhill officiating. Interment will take place at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Beatrice. The body will lie in state on Tuesday from 1:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. with a scriptural rosary at 7:00 P.M. at Fox Funeral Home in Beatrice. The family requests that memorials in his name be given to St. Joseph’s Catholic School of Beatrice.
