He was a life-long resident of Newport News and retired from Newport News Shipbuilding as a welding instructor.
David was a dedicated, longtime member of First Friends Church, Hampton.
Survivors include his loving wife of 45 years, Peggy M. Cassell; daughter, Donna L. Rivers (George), Shelia G. Butner (Carl), Cynthia A. Parker; sons, David M. Cassell, and Charlie W. Bolton, Jr.; sisters, Dorothy L. Clifton and Betty L. Nester; brother, Billy G. Cassell; eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday 12/18/18, at the Peninsula funeral home with burial to follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.
