Beloved elementary school teacher and daughter of Hall of Fame baseball pitcher Jim “Catfish” Hunter.

Kimberly Ann Hunter Daugherty, 45, of Beech Springs Road, Hertford, NC, passed away Thursday, December 13, 2018.

Born in Walnut Creek, CA, she was the daughter of Helen Overton Hunter of Hertford and the late James Augustus "Catfish" Hunter. An educator for over 20 years, she currently taught fourth and fifth grades at Hertford Grammar School and had previously taught at Perquimans Middle School, and in Dare and Pitt counties. She had recently been honored as the County Teacher of the Year by the Hertford Rotary Club. An active member of Hertford Baptist Church, she had served as a Sunday school teacher, youth leader, and Vacation Bible School teacher. She also found enjoyment with her work as a sales agent with Mary Kay and through Kim's Boutique where she developed many lasting friendships.

Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband of 10 years, Stephen Daugherty; two brothers, Todd and Paul Hunter, and their families, all of Hertford; and many extended family members and friends.

A private memorial service will be held for the family on Sunday. Following that, friends are invited for a time of visitation to celebrate Kim's life from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall of Hertford Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jim "Catfish" Hunter ALS Foundation, PO Box 47, Hertford, NC 27944.
