Esther Jean Tebbs, 92, a resident of Annapolis, MD for thirty-eight years, died on Friday, December 7 at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis. Born on January 29, 1926, in Denver, CO to the late, Alfred McCarthy Burroughs and Esther Grace Eastman Burroughs, Esther earned bachelor's and master's degrees from San Diego State University. She also furthered her education with graduate studies at American University and Johns Hopkins University. Esther was a teacher in Prince George's County at Bladensburg Jr. High School for twenty years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Annapolis and P.E.O., Chapter Y. Esther was dedicated to furthering women's education and enjoyed traveling, performing music, history, global art, swimming, yoga, tai chi, hiking in nature and walking at Annapolis Academy. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Al Higgins, and Malcolm Tebbs. She is survived by her son, Charles O'Bryan Hewins of Denton, NC and Deborah Burnell of La Mesa, CA; her grandchildren, Scott William Burnell, Sarah Hewins, and Rhonda Connors and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 171 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis, MD on Saturday, December 15 at 2 PM. For the convenience of Ginger Cove residents and others, there will be a reception in the Annapolis Room at Ginger Cove on December 15 @ 4:30 p.m. Inurnment will be at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery
