He was born in Sanford, Maine, on Oct. 3, 1946, son of the late Day and Bertha (Hatch) Benway. Delzel served our country in the U. S. Army, serving in the 101st Airborne during the Vietnam War.
He spent many years working as a maintenance supervisor at Turbo Care in Manchester before retiring and establishing, with his wife Carol, Hidden Acres Kennel in Tolland. Besides his love for his German Shepherds, he enjoyed creating beautiful plaques and other decorative woodworking projects, fishing, and enjoying RC cars and airplanes.
Delzel is survived by his wife of 49 years, Carol (Lindblad) Benway; daughter, Pennie Hodges and her husband, Kevin of Stafford Springs; grandson, Ryan Hodges of Stafford Springs; three siblings, Pauline Young and her husband, Craig of Berwick, Maine, Day Benway, Jr. of Centralia, Missouri, and Benjamin Benway and his wife, Allie of Rochester, New Hampshire; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Nancy Dailey.
Services and burial will be held privately.
