Richard was born on May 9, 1925, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma the son of Fred Gurvis and Anna (Anderson) Stravlo. After graduating high school, Richard enlisted in the United States Navy on August 4, 1943 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. While serving in the Navy, Richard received several awards including the American Theatre Area Ribbon, the WWII Victory Medal, the Phillipine Liberation Campaign Ribbon, and the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Ribbon. He was honorably discharged on March 25, 1946 in Norman, Oklahoma. Richard married Phylis Harker in Maryville, Kansas, in 1949. They were married for fifteen years. On March 24, 1967, Richard married Willo Dean Black in Harrah, Oklahoma. They were happily married for fifty-one years. Richard worked in commercial construction for Village Enterprises, Inc. He was a member of the Checotah First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Willo, of the home; his son, Ronnie Lee Stravlo and wife Flory of Choctaw; his grandchildren, Brennan Stravlo of Austin, TX, André Marie Stravlo of Alexandria, VA, Brandt Stravlo and wife Amber of Lubbock, TX and Andrew Stravlo and wife Sarah of Shawnee; Luis Rodriguez, Natalia and Luis J. Rodriguez, Sophie Rodriguez and Angelica Rodriguez; his great grandchildren, Victoria, Edward, Dominic, Axel and Beau; his brother, Jimmy Stravlo and wife Joyce of Oklahoma City. He is preceded in death by his parents and Donnie Lynn Stravlo.
