Steve was a miner. and the son of John Shea from Ireland. He was married to Mary Katon about 1860 and immigrated about 1857. The couple had 9 children with 2 surviving including Johanna (1862-1887), Patrick (1864), Mary (1866), James (1871), Abby (1871), Margaret (1872-1873), Eva (1885-1886). They had a grandson, Tommy (1897). In 1870 and 1880, the family was in Negaunee, Michigan. Steve died from cancer of the tongue at the age of 78.
