He moved from Indiana to McLean county, Ill., in 1851, and to Champaign county in 1868. He volunteered in the spring of 1863 in the 94th Illinois infantry and served till August, 1865, as a union soldier. His wife having died, he was married in September, 1885, to Mrs. Margaret Bell, who with his surviving children mourn his loss.
His son Jerald tells us that he was converted longer ago than he can remember and has been a church member ever since. He died June 25, 1895, being 69 years, 3 months and 11 days old. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. C. N. Cain, at Seymour, June 27 at 10 a.m., after which the remains were interred in the Bethel cemetery.
