Georgia was born July 1, 1941 at Rock Rapids, IA, the daughter of George and Nancy (Kruger) Bloem. She was raised on the family farm east of Ellsworth, MN. She attended country school and graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1959.

On December 30, 1960 she was united in marriage at First Baptist Church of George, IA, to Gary Allan Schubert. The couple began their lives together living in Aberdeen, MD, while Gary served in U.S. Army, before returning to Ellsworth, MN. Four children were blessed to this union. In the early 60’s their family moved to Rock Rapids, IA. She worked various jobs and was known as “The Malt Lady” at Central Lyon High School. She began working at Lyon Manor in the kitchen and housekeeping departments for 17 years, before semi-retiring.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, rural George, IA before helping to start Faith Baptist Church of Rock Rapids, IA, where she remained a member until her passing. She was active as an AWANA Leader, church pianist and active in the Faith Baptist Ladies Circle for many years. She enjoyed walking with Traci, cooking and baking, loved to visit with company over coffee, tea and goodies. Faith was a vital part of Georgia’s life. She especially cared about her family and friends. In August of 2012, Georgia suffered a stroke and rehabbed in the Good Samaritan Center in George for a short while before returning to her home. After being married for nearly 53 years, her husband Gary passed away on November 13, 2013. Georgia continued living in their home and remained active with the church, until she entered Lyon Manor in February of 2016. She remained there until her death this past Wednesday.
