Founding Pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Olpe, Kansas, Rev. Father Alexius Maria (born Martin) Centner, O.F.M., came to America with his family in 1853, settling in Cincinnati, Ohio. He joined the Franciscan Order in 1875, and was ordained a priest on August 1, 1880. He served in Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Illinois, and for many years in Kansas. He was also the founding pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Garden Plain, Kansas, in 1901. With funds from his uncle, who was also a Catholic priest, he purchased the property for St. Joseph Cemetery, where he is now interred.
