Sara was born in Lebanon on March 28, 1921 and was a daughter of the late Howard and Mabel (Allwein) Arnold. Sara served in the United States Army Nurses Corp during WWII and retired as a registered nurse from the Lebanon VA Medical Center. She was a member of Mary Gate of Heaven Church in Myerstown and the Mt. Zion & Friendship Fire Company. Anyone who knew Sara, knows that she was always active. Her green thumb produced some of the biggest tomatoes and she crocheted the warmest blankets, donating many to the senior citizens throughout the community. She took pride in participating in all activities sponsored by Mary Gate of Heaven. She loved and was loved.
Sara is survived by a son, Edward C. Burkholder and his wife Margarita; two grandchildren - Lianna Burkholder and her husband Chris Daleen, and Jason Burkholder; a great grandson, Dylan Burkholder-Daleen; two sisters - Sr. Agnes Leona Arnold and Rose Felty; a brother, Joseph V. Arnold and his wife Margaret; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by twelve siblings.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30a.m. on Friday, December 7th at Mary Gate of Heaven Church, 188 West McKinley Avenue, Myerstown, PA 17067. There will be a one hour viewing from 9:30-10:30am in church. Interment with full military honors will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
