The Rev. George H. DeFrehn, age 92, died Friday, November 30, 2018. Born August 15, 1926 in Sunbury, he was the son of Maurice M. and Mabel (Spotts) DeFrehn.

He graduated from Highspire High School in 1944 and Elizabethtown College in 1947. He was a graduate of the Lutheran Theological Seminary, Gettysburg, having received the Master of Divinity Degree in 1950.

Following a call to St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Catawissa, he was ordained May 23, 1950.

He married Jeanette Hetrick who was his faithful and loving partner until her death in 2003. For over half a century, she served with him at St. Matthew, Catawissa; St. John, Boiling Springs; Christ, Lancaster; and St. John, Shiremanstown, from 1968 until his retirement on January 1, 1991. He was named Pastor Emeritus of St. John's until his death. He then began a long-term interim pastorate at St. Mark Lutheran Church, West Fairview until his retirement in 2011.

Pastor DeFrehn served the Church at large in several capacities. His primary interest was in the pastoral aspect of ministry and in preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ in its purity and administering the Sacraments rightly.

On July 5, 2007 he exchanged wedding vows with Geraldine Cropf, widow of James Cropf. Who also preceded him in death on November 27, 2016.

He is survived by his children, Linda (Robert) Walker of Camp Hill; George H. Jr. (Margaret) of Colorado; Sandra (Frank) Snyder, Jr. of Duncannon and Jeanette D. DeFrehn of Mechanicsburg; grandchildren, Robert "JR"and Chad Walker, Kristin DeFrehn and Ashton Maxwell and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 6, at St. John Lutheran Church, Shiremanstown. Viewings will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 5 at Malpezzi Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg and from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Rolling Green Cemetery.
