Hubert- Audrey Taylor Stanley, 86, passed away Tuesday November 27, 2018 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice in Wilmington. She was born April 3, 1932 in Bogue, NC daughter of the late, Marvin Jackson and Beatrice Russell Taylor.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Jones Funeral Home of Swansboro with Rev. Sandy Bain and Rev. Terry Golden officiating. Burial will follow at the Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday night from 6-8 at Jones Funeral Home of Swansboro.
Audrey lived in Bogue, Carteret County, until she married Bert, her high school sweetheart. Both attended Swansboro High School, graduating in May 1950. Soon after she became employed at USNH, Camp Lejeune, beginning her federal service on August 9, 1950.
Audrey continued her employment at various locations, following her husband Bert, a Coast Guardsman for over 20 years, beginning at the Naval Air Station-Norfolk, MCAS-Cherry Point, USAF-Bermuda, and the US Attorney’s Office, Mobile, AL.
Upon her husband’s retirement from the U. S. Coast Guard, they returned to their home in Hubert, where she continued her 30 years of federal service at MCES-Camp Lejeune. On March 30, 1988, she was presented a Navy Civilian Service Award by the Base General, Camp Lejeune.
Audrey was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church where she was secretary, assistant treasurer, and treasurer for 10 years; secretary and treasurer for the Senior Adult Fellowship for 15 years. She was also a member of NARF, AARP, and Military Widows.
She often spoke of how blessed she was having been employed so soon after her high school graduation counting it a privilege to serve her country and thankful to God for her strength to sustain the many opportunities offered her.
She is survived by son, David Bert Stanley (Carol) of Stone Mountain, GA; daughter, Diana Kaye Stanley Holland (Frank) of Leland; grandchildren, Jennifer Leigh Holland Ansell (George) of Stella, Sean Taylor Holland of Leland, Daniel Thomas Stanley of Roswell, GA, Jacob Andrew Stanley of Auburn, AL, and Joshua David Stanley of Dothan, AL; and her brother, Ashley Edward Taylor of Bogue.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bert Clinton Stanley; and brother, Darold Oneil Taylor.
