Obituary
Lucetta Sparks was born near Perth, Canada, March 21, 1845, moved to Kansas with her parents in the early days.
She was married to Ernest M. Hodges in November 1863, to them were born nine children, seven of which survive her.
The greater part of her active life was spent in the rugged pioneering day, when it took courage and thrift to overcome the hardships of those times, days when white settlers were few and Indians were many and pioneers protected themselves, days of scant food supplies that tested the endurance of the best, days when mothers had burdens that we of this day do not know or realize.
She passed away Saturday morning, October 2, 1920, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Joseph Pratt, St. George, Kansas age 75 years, 6 months and 11 days. Thus in the passing of this life goes out one who has been a real pioneer and a loving mother.
She is survived by her husband, Ernest M. Hodges, two brothers and one sister, Mr. Ruben Sparks, Ellsworth, Kansas; Mr John Sparks, Gage, Oklahoma; and Mrs Mollie Torry, Manhattan, Kansas. And the following children, all of whom were with her when she passed away; Mrs R. G. French, Boulder, Colorado; Norman W. Hodges, Palco, Kansas; Mrs P. N. Post, Wabaunsee, Kansas; Elmer and Lemron Hodges, Mrs Joseph N. Pratt and Mrs E. J. Dalton of St. George, Kansas.
