Juanita Jewel Shelton Banning, a longtime resident of Del City, passed away November 29, 2018. Juanita was born on March 26, 1923 to John and Clara (Metcalf) Shelton. She married Lester Banning on January 29, 1941 and they had three children, Betty, Tom, and John.

Juanita is preceded in death by her parents, John and Clara Shelton; Step-Mother, Eva Shelton; brothers, Darrel and Jack Shelton; and sisters, Doris Hunt and Dorothy Holmes.

She is survived by her brother, Mack Shelton and wife, Lola, of Gainesville, Florida; sister-in-law Mae Mitchell and husband, Bill, of Shawnee; daughter, Betty, of Oklahoma City; son, Tom and wife Wanda, of Choctaw; and son, John and wife Denise, of Gracemont, OK. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Juanita enjoyed helping people, particularly the widows in the church where her husband was Pastor, Del Haven Tabernacle. She enjoyed cooking for family and friends, gardening, sewing and her houseplants. She loved talking about growing up on the farm with her five brothers and sisters and how her Dad had taken care of them after her Mother’s death. Another favorite topic was the church at Okay, where she met her husband and that had made so many friends. Another favorite was the school at Macomb and riding the school bus with her friends. At the Thanksgiving dinner as the families were leaving she was telling everyone to “come back and see us”. She enjoyed parties and talked often of her 95th birthday party and all the family that gathered to celebrate with her. She will be missed.
