James Ash/Ashe was most likely born in Frederick County, Virginia. He married Keziah Johnston, in 1813 at Logan County, Kentucky. (Keziah was most likely, James' second wife.)
They moved to North Carolina and later to McNairy County, Tennessee and he appears in that counties 1820 and 1830 census.
In the 1840 Census he is not listed and it has been assumed that he died sometime in the 1830s and is buried in McNairy County, TN. The 1840 Census for McNairy County shows three Ash men, assumed to be brothers, Hiram/Hyram Ash (possibly middle name Addison), Nelson Ash and Adison/Addison) Hiram Ash.
In the early 1840s, two of the Ash brothers, Nelson and Adison (nicknamed "Hiram"), went to Rusk County, Texas; while, Hiram remained in McNairy County, appearing in its 1850 census with his wife Prudy, sons James and John, and daughter Angeline and a 2 year old Watton. Hiram Ash also appears in the 1870 census.
Addison "Hiram" (1810-1867) married Sarah Guinn (1809-1888) in Tennessee. Hiram and Sarah had three known sons: John, James and William Howard; they also had a daughter, Mary R. Ash, who died at the age of 16. All three sons fought in the Civil War as Texans.
