Mr. Albert Stokes “Al” Ellen, 84, passed away on Saturday, September 1, 2018.
A graveside service will be conducted on Saturday at 11:30 AM in Pinewood Memorial Park.
Mr. Ellen was born to Thomas and Gracie Anderson Ellen and was a native of Halifax County. He spent his first career in the United States Air Force having served during both the Korean War and Vietnam, retiring with 22 years of service and obtaining the rank of Senior Master Sargent. Following his military service, Mr. Ellen began his second career in Personnel Management Administration. He worked for more than 10 years for Lenoir Memorial Hospital and later for several private industries.
Mr. Ellen will be fondly remembered for his love of family and service to others. He was a regular volunteer for more than 10 years at Wilson Medical Center and also delivered Meals on Wheels. He had a lifelong love of cats, was an avid walker, loved gardening and working in his yard, and in his earlier years was a “Bee-Keeper”. A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Mr. Ellen will be greatly missed by the many who knew and loved him.
Mr. Ellen was preceded in death by his wife, Erma Browning Ellen, a brother, James Ellen and a sister, Agnes Ellen Safy.
He is survived by: sons, Scot Ellen of San Diego, CA and Craig Ellen of Greenville;
daughter, Angela E. Tripp and husband, Reid, of Cary; grandchildren, Kyle and Trent Ellen and Lauren, Dawson, Nicole and Matthew Tripp.
The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.
