He was born May 8, 1933, in Chatsworth, a son of Ray and Mabel (Drilling) Bruner. He married Janet Ellinger in 1955 in Charlotte. He later married Elizabeth Triggs in 1976 in Rantoul, and she preceded him in death in 1995.
He is survived by two children, Ronnie Bruner in Cullom and Robin (Crystal) Bruner of Rantoul; five stepchildren, Paul (Diane) Haines of Rantoul, John, Julie, Eric and Sharon; grandchildren, Heather and Amber Haines, along with six grandchildren out of state.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and two brothers.
LaVern served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He and his brother, Marvin, ran the Bruner Barber Shop in Rantoul from 1956-1972. He then worked at Kraft until he retired in 1995. He loved bowling and supported the St. Louis Cardinals.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, Rantoul. The Rev. Paula Wallace will officiate. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, Rantoul. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service.
