Dorothy Hill Norris went home to be with God on Thursday, 17th of May, 2007, in the Mississippi Delta town of Rolling Fork near her daughter Jody's home.

Born the 24th of December, 1927, in Center, Shelby, Texas, she grew up traveling with her family as her Dad worked in oilfield construction for Standard Oil throughout Texas and the Deep South and along the East Coast in the 1930s. East Texas became her home and when she and her family moved to Houston in her early teens she met Jay Norris in a shared biology class while attending Jeff Davis High School. They were married from August 1946 until his death on the 2nd of March, 1998.

Homemaking and four children followed in Houston until the mid-1980s when Dot and Jay moved to Palestine. Involving themselves in life and living there, they spearheaded the early beginnings of a car club. Under Jay's leadership they worked at their hobby and became founding members of the now 45-member Cars of Palestine, driving and showing their various Chevrolets in a variety of parades, festivals and charity events. Dot was the club photographer and album keeper and drove her and Jay's last car he restored, a burgundy and cream two-door automatic transmission 1955 Chevrolet Bel-Aire decorated with clear lights in the Palestine Christmas parade in 2005 when she was 78 years old!

Her commitment to God lasted her lifetime, having grown up and belonging to Church of Christ congregations in Shelby County, Houston, and Crockett Road and Court Drive in Palestine, where she most recently worked in the benevolence center and the food bank.

Dot is survived by a brother, Ray Hill and wife Sandra of Montgomery, Texas; a sister-in-law Lidia Hill of Houston, aunt, Marie Hankee and husband Bill of Harrisburg, Penn.; children, Paula Pierce and husband John of Houston, Jay Lynn Frnka of Point Comfort and Arlington, Jody Hasken and husband Ron of Rolling Fork, Mississippi, Brady Norris and wife Shawn of Amarillo; grandchildren, Shelby and Anson Pierce, Laura and Cameron McLendon, nieces and nephews. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Jay, parents CoyleB and Cecil Gay Jones Hill, her sister EddieB Hill Audas Bylsma, her baby brother, Coyle BRICE Hill, Jr and a granddaughter Lindsey McLendon....

Funeral services under the direction of Danny Sidders will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Herrington/Land of Memory Chapel. Burial will follow beside Jay at Land of Memory, U.S. 287 North.

Car club members will serve as pallbearers.
