Carmichael -- Elizabeth (Betty Ann) Jones, a long time resident of Sacramento area, died Friday the 26th of October. She was 85. Born Elizabeth Ann Otis in 1932 in San Diego, CA., the family moved to Sacramento, CA where she graduated Valedictorian from St Joseph Academy High School in 1950.
Betty Ann began working at McClellan AFB where she met and soon married her lifelong love, Billie Lee Jones. Together they had four sons, Lawrence, Timothy, Kevin, and Gregory. Soon after she began working for the North Sacramento School District as a School Secretary. She transitioned to the San Juan Unified School District as a Payroll Clerk, retiring from there in 1994.
In retirement, she found the time to earn a Bachelors Degree in Communications from CSU Sacramento. She was an accomplished pianist. While in high school she played the pump organ at the masses for the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral Catholic church in Sacramento. When she moved to Carmichael, she joined Our Lady of Assumption church, continued to play the organ for masses there, and later was a founding parishioner of St John the Evangelist Catholic Church in 1960, where she again was the organist playing for 50 years there.
She also served as the Regional Representative for the California School Employees Association, was a member of CROW's (Classified Retired Office Workers) and a member of the Sacramento German Genealogical Society. She enjoyed cross stitching and her genealogy research of the family history. She is survived by her son Lawrence, her son Timothy and his wife Debbie, her son Kevin and his wife Dianne, and her son Gregory and his wife Gail, 9 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, and her sisters Norma McAfee and Patricia Saling.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Lind Brothers Mortuary of Carmichael. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 17th at St John the Evangelist Church, 5751 Locust Ave, in Carmichael, at 10:00 AM immediately followed by a light luncheon and reception. A private interment will follow. Memorial gifts may be made to St John the Evangelist Church or to a charity of your choice.
