Virginia Burks Millner, 93, of Amherst passed away Sunday, November 11, 2018, at her residence. Born in Amherst County, January 28, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Carrington Wills Burks and Sweetie Golden Christian Burks. She retired from G.E. after 27 years of service and later retired from Amherst County Public Schools. She was a collector of all things, an avid animal lover and loved music and enjoyed playing her fiddle. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Herbert Lee Millner and nine siblings. She is survived by two daughters, Peggy Page of Madison Heights and Pam Self of Amherst; one son, Melvin Millner and his wife, Linda, of Amherst; one sister, Janie Mays and husband, Mack, of Amherst; two brothers, Roger Burks and wife, Linda and Samuel Burks all of Amherst; seven grandchildren, 16 great- grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. A service celebrating her life will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday, November 15, 2018, at Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Rev. Carroll Martin Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 14, 2018, at Whitten Monelison Chapel. The family would like to acknowledge Centra Hospice and her caregivers Diane and Riley for the wonderful care they provided.
