From daughter Alma Parrish Bunn:
"The family lived in Gibson County, Tennessee; Baptist Church Minister; Farmers; At one time the family had extensive land holdings 'Enough land to have given each child a farm'. Nelson gave land to the Parrish Chapel (Baptist) near Friendship TN. Big Sunday dinners were an outgrowth of Nelson's generous nature. He would invite the whole congregation home for dinner after the church service where he preached: and everyone came. The women of the family spent Friday and Saturday preparing the food. An expensive family affair."
One day a family member came upon Rev Parrish astride of a mule. In a field he was sowing oats. He was a stout gentleman. He had made individual covers for the mule's ears to keep the oats from falling into the ears of the animal as he cast the oat seeds out ahead and alongside the mule as they went along.
