Brent Lawrence Cassavant was born March 3, 1955 at Thief River Falls, MN son of Lawrence and Elizabeth (Schmidt) Cassavant. He was raised in the Dorothy area and was baptized and confirmed at St. Dorothy Catholic Church. He attended school at Lafayette High School in Red Lake Falls, MN graduating in 1973. Growing up and following his education he worked with his father on the family farm.

He started working at American Crystal in Crookston right out of High School until his health forced him to retire in 2008. He started on the pilers and worked up to a title of Chief Steam Engineer. He was a safety Captain for many years and first responder. On January 2, 1998 he was united in marriage to Jackie Shockley at Crookston, MN. Brent and his siblings began a tree farm in 1998 which they continue to this day.

He was an outdoor/nature man! He loved exploring the woods for wildlife and driving around the farm on his favorite John Deere tractor or side by side. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and spent a lot of time in his vegetable garden and would share his bounty with family and friends. He also enjoyed processing his fresh venison, cooking, and grilling but no baking! He enjoyed tinkering in his man cave “Shack”. He was very mechanical and artistic, he enjoyed fixing on machinery and creating with his wood burning tool. He loved to talk and tell stories, sharing with his grandsons about hunting adventures and teasing his “little princesses” granddaughters.

Brent is survived by his loving wife Jackie; children Bridget, Jenny (Marty), Corey and Dusty (Anju); grandchildren Dalton, Gavin, Catherine, Silas, Gage and Nia; siblings Bill (Jamie) and Linda (Jerry) along with nieces, nephews and cousins; and his four legged family Cloud, Jerry, Tootsie and Johnnyboy.

He is preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Elizabeth Cassavant.
