Colusa Herald, Volume 41, Number 160, 28 December 1926: J.J. FENDER, 92, DIES IN COLUSA. Johnson J. Fender, one of the earliest settlers of Colusa county died here Friday night after an illness of 8 months. Fender was 92 years of age.
Fender crossed the plains by oxteam in the ’50’s and first settled in Shasta county. A few years later he moved to Colusa county and was one of the first residents of Willows. He was engaged in ranching and blacksmithing for the greater part of his life.
About 40 years ago Fender went to Stonyford, where he resided almost to the time of his death.
Fender was typical of California’s pioneers, a man of tremendous vitality. He was one of the oldest Masons in the state and had been a member of Stonyford lodge for many years past.
Funeral services, which will be held today in the Stonyford church under the auspices of the Stonyford lodge of Masons. Rev. Mr. Morgan of Marysville will conduct the services. Interment will be at Stonyford under direction of J D. McNary & Son.
Fender was twice married. The following sons and daughters survive: Ira Fender of Willows; Will Fender and Mrs. Lorie Black of Idaho; Andrew Fender of Pineridge; Mrs. Martha De Forest of Richmond; Albert Fender of Colusa; Mrs. T.M. List of Roseville: Frank and Asa Fender of Stonyford; Mrs. Holdah Franklin of Yuba City.
