Obituary of Denise Ann Gugelman
Denise Ann Gugelman died on January 10th, 2018. She was born on October 24th, 1952 in Sigourney, Iowa, the third child of Raymond and Barbara DeDecker. Denise grew up on an Iowa farm with her nine siblings, Mike, Mark, Mary, Jo, Carrie, Jane, David, and Molly. Denise was the oldest daughter in the family, and had a life-long role as second mom to her brothers and sisters. Denise was musically gifted. She was a drum majorette for the marching band, played the clarinet, oboe, French horn, and was a soloist with the choir. She graduated from Deep River-Millersburg High School in 1969.

Denise became a mother at a young age, bringing the miracle she named Maggie into her family. The family then moved to Colorado where she continued her education at Parks School of Business in Denver. She started a technical career at Hewlett Packard, and over the years, Denise developed her natural leadership qualities as a team leader and continued to work for HP for close to thirty years.

Denise bought a beautiful piece of property on Storm Mountain in the Rockies, and orchestrated with her family the build of her log home. This good-hearted woman found her good-timin' mountain man and married Robert "Moose" Gugelman on January 6th, 1979. They welcomed the birth of a son, Christopher Joseph on April 15th, 1980. She and Moose re-located to Namaqua Hills to be closer to her parents, their children's schools, and work.

In the mid-nineties, jobs in the technical industry were being outsourced, and this jeopardized the employment of many of her team members. It was Denise's loyalty to the people she worked with that inspired the creation of DGCD, her own circuit design company. As a CEO and founder of her own tech company, she not only became a leader in a male-dominated computer industry, but brought with her the compassion and humanity that was much needed in the field. About the same time, she helped her husband found MADD Castings, a fine-arts bronze foundry. All the while, she kept her growing family in sync, and welcomed Maggie's husband, Bill and Christopher's wife, Mel into the composition of her life's song.

Denise took care of her aging parents, and due to her own health issues retired from her business in 2012. She traded circuit boards for lullabies, and again took on the role of second mom to her four grandchildren, Isabella, Owen, Samantha, and Mason. Denise loved being a grandmother, and learned to slow down and enjoy life. She traveled to Mexico many times with her husband and family, put her toes in the sand, and shared her love of music and laughter with her grandchildren. The essence of Denise was her family and her faith. Memorial Mass for Denise will be held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. with a reception following in the church basement. In lieu of flowers, memorial donation may be sent to UC Health-CeDAR, 1693 Quentin Street, Aurora, Colorado
